Project Details
Allen+Batchelor Construction completed the new construction of the Tom Young Center for Research and Innovation, located in Aiken, South Carolina. The three-story building was designed to complement the historic character of the surrounding neighborhood, featuring a classically inspired brick exterior with arched ground-floor glazing, stone base detailing, and an ornate cornice — a striking new addition to downtown Aiken that feels right at home in its context.
Inside, the design delivers a fully modern workplace and innovation environment. A dramatic lobby welcomes visitors with a custom acoustical felt ceiling feature, globe pendant lighting, polished quartz reception surfaces, and warm hardwood flooring. Collaborative lounge areas, an employee café with arched wood booth niches, and a tiled bar-height kitchen island with floor-to-ceiling windows create an environment designed to attract and retain top talent. Open office areas feature striking suspended ceiling cloud elements with integrated ring lighting set against an exposed painted structure, while private focus rooms offer individually color-coded interiors for a playful, functional touch. A landscaped rear courtyard with a covered porch provides additional outdoor gathering space for tenants and visitors alike.
